He received a bachelor's degree from King Saud University in 1974 and a master's degree and doctorate from Purdue University, USA in 1978 and 1983 in Anglo-American literature. 
He has received many awards:
Sultan Qaboos Award in Literary Criticism 2017 
Bahrain Book Award 2018
Honored at the GCC level in 2019
He has about 30 books and many important translations
